State Representative Brent Hassert is inviting the public to attend a discussion on the need for jobs and infrastructure at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at the 150 West Operators Hall, 1050 NE Frontage Road in Joliet. The discussion is part of a statewide listening tour being conducted by the Illinois Works Coalition which is co-chaired by former U.S. Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard. The coalition is seeking to build consensus around a $25 billion capital program that would provide funding for road and bridge improvements and school construction as well as create an estimated 700,000 jobs statewide.

“I am honored to welcome Speaker Hastert to the area so that he can hear first-hand from my constituents about the roads and schools in our area that are in need of major improvements. Will County is among the fastest growing counties in the nation and the infrastructure simply cannot keep up with the rapid growth. The growth is a testament to what a great area Will County is to raise a family, but we want to keep it that way….and to do that, we need a capital bill,” Rep. Hassert said.

Romeoville…This week, the Illinois House unanimously approved a bill co-sponsored by State Representative Brent Hassert (R-Romeoville) that would allow increased security measures for victims of domestic violence. Specifically, House Bill 3038 would allow global positioning satellite (GPS) tracking to be used on domestic abuse offenders who violate orders of protection.

“Someone who acts violently toward another person and then violates a court order of protection sends a clear message that they are unwilling to obey the law. GPS tracking will provide necessary protection for the victims being pursued by such aggressive offenders,” Rep. Hassert said.

Romeoville… State Representative Brent Hassert (R-Romeoville) along with a group of House Republican lawmakers called for new safeguards to better protect victims of domestic violence during a press conference at the Illinois Capitol today. Following the devastating murder of Cindy Bischof in Elmhurst, House Republicans are proposing global positioning satellite (GPS) tracking of offenders who violate orders of protection.

“Following the letter of the law, Cindy Bischof filed an order of protection and moved away after an ex-boyfriend began to stalk and harass her. Tragically, her ex-boyfriend ignored the law and ended her life. I strongly believe the use of GPS tracking would keep violent offenders away from their intended victims,” Rep. Hassert said.
